How it works

Three steps from server to supper.

Sizzzle is the client — it brings no recipes and no cloud of its own. It simply gives the Mealie server you already run a warm, native home in the kitchen.

  1. 1

    Connect your server

Point Sizzzle at your Mealie URL with an API key or your login. Nothing leaves your network.

  2. 2

    Cook from it

Clear step-by-step instructions in big, readable type. Scale servings 1 → 99 and every amount follows.

  3. 3

    Plan & shop

Build a shared 7-day meal plan, then a shopping list grouped neatly by aisle.

In the kitchen

A recipe that reads like a page from your favourite cookbook.

Big food photography, calm typography, the whole method laid out so you can cook hands-free with flour on your fingers. The screen stays awake the entire time.

Plan & shop

The week, planned together. The list, sorted by aisle.

Slot recipes into a shared seven-day plan with whoever you cook with, then send the ingredients to a shopping list that’s already in order — scaled to your servings.

Every screen, in your theme

Real screens. Real cooking.

These are the actual app, captured on iPhone — toggle the theme up top and the screens follow. Built native for iPad, too.

It’s yours

No cloud in the middle.

Your recipes, meal plans, lists and photos go only to the Mealie server you run and to your device. There is no Sizzzle account and no Sizzzle cloud — the app just talks to your server, over the connection you control.

Good to know

Questions, answered honestly.

Do I need my own Mealie server?
Yes. Sizzzle is a companion app for Mealie, the open-source self-hosted recipe manager. It ships with no recipes and has no cloud of its own — it shows what lives on the Mealie server you run. If you don’t self-host Mealie yet, set that up first, then point Sizzzle at it.
How do I connect it?
Enter your Mealie server URL — the app checks it’s reachable before saving — then sign in with your username and password or an API token. Behind a reverse proxy like Authelia or Authentik? Add custom HTTP headers on the connection screen. Your URL and tokens live in the device keychain.
Does it work offline?
Reading does. Recipes and images you’ve already opened stay viewable when the connection drops, and the screen stays awake while a recipe is open. Creating or editing recipes, meal plans and lists needs a live connection to your server.
What happens to my data and privacy?
Your recipes, meal plans, shopping lists and photos go only to your own Mealie server and your device — never to us. The app includes anonymous usage and crash analytics (PostHog, hosted in the EU) to fix bugs and decide what to build: screen and action events only, no recipe content and no session recording. Details on the privacy page.
iPhone and iPad?
Both, natively. The iPad isn’t a stretched phone — it has its own layout with a three-column recipe grid and a top navigation bar, and you can edit side by side.
Languages and themes?
Full English and German throughout the app, and light, dark, or follow-the-system appearance — the same choices this site gives you.
